Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, regrets that parliamentary discussion of events in Lviv on May 9 did not lead to any balanced conclusions. In the interview to Rada television channel, he stated, "We have heard the same radical exclamations as were made during the fight in Lviv." "Reaction of deputies in the session hall frustrated me, as aggression has never led to positive results," V.Lytvyn stressed.

The Head of the Parliament believes that both ultra-right and ultra-left politicians have been looking for the pretext, and have found it.  "It seems that several political groupings have started their election campaign this way. They chose Lviv for this purpose to show who is the master," the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated.

"We should not humiliate the people who fought for Ukraine, but understand that it is these people who gave a possibility for the present-day politicians to pontificate on the needs of Ukraine," V.Lytvyn stressed.

He supposes that parliamentary act on the banner may not be connected with the events in Lviv on May 9. "People used to celebrate the Victory Day with the banners they preferred even without such a resolution," the Head of the Parliament reminded.

V.Lytvyn supposes that this issue needs less hysteria and talks about the banner, because the latter becomes ‘a mere cover-up´. He expects the law-enforcement agencies to investigate the situation with respective consequences. "Evil must be punished," V.Lytvyn stressed.
